Mini oats idli

Hi loves,

Sharing a mini oats idli recipe today! For those of you who may not know, idili’s are savory rice cakes that are made by steaming the batter and usually eaten with some sambar or chutney!

I am trying to eat healthier but don’t wan to to compromise on taste and this recipe is perfect for that! Oats are one of the healthier grains out there, full of nutrition, high fiber and they keep you full for longer!

In case you don’t have a mini idli steamer or a steamer at all don’t worry! You can make these in your larger idli steamer then cut them in pieces of 4 and then temper them! If you don’t have the steamer you can make uttapam out of the same batter, pour them on to a hot greased pan and let them cook just like pancakes! Add in some chopped up veggies and sprinkle the chutney powder for extra taste!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of oats
  • 1 cup of semolina (Rava)
  • Handful of white urad dal
  • Baking soda
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • 1 cup hot water
  • Green Chili
  • Cilantro
  • Curry leaves
  • Mustard seeds
  • Cumin
  • Oil
  • Salt
  • MTR chutney powder (optional)

The Batter

In a bowl mix the oats and semolina and add in the salt and a pinch of baking soda. (Also add in the yogurt if you’re using any) Slowly add in the hot water and mix till you have a relatively smooth batter. You don’t need to use all the water just till your batter is good enough to pour.

Let the batter sit for about 10 – 15 minutes and then put into the greased idli pans!

The Tempering

  • Heat oil
  • Sauté the urad dal till it browns a little
  • Green chili (Optional)
  • Curry leaves
  • Mustard seeds
  • Cumin
  • The steamed idlis
  • MTR chutney powder
  • Cilantro
  • Taste and add in salt if you need extra!

This is a really easy, yummy and healthy recipe I love! You can have it for breakfast, a snack or even serve the mini idli’s as an appetizer!

Enjoy! 🙂
